The De Cuéllar Suite - Saturday Performance

  • Church of Mary Immaculate Main Street Grange Co. Sligo (map)

Main Concert Event

The De Cuéllar Suite was composed by Michael Rooney in 2010 and pays tribute to the Spanish Armada and its close ties to Grange and Sligo. In 1588 three Armada ships were wrecked at Streedagh Beach with the loss of over 1,100 lives. Incredibly, an account was written by a survivor, Captain Francisco de Cuéllar. This musical composition was inspired by his writings, and tonight’s performance brings together a number of renowned traditional and classical musicians, along with choir and actors, who will perform in music, song and spoken word, the incredible De Cuéllar Suite.

This performance will take place at Grange Church, will feature up to 10 musicians, as well as local actors, Grange Post Primary School Choir and a full production team.

These master traditional and classical musicians include Michael Rooney (harp), Joss Kelly (member of traditional group Moxie - keyboards), Niamh Crowley (violin), June McCormack (flute), Marie O’Byrne (violin), Ted Kelly (Moxie - banjo), Anna Houston (cello), Alex Kelly (concertina).

Early booking is advised.

PRICE: €15 (early bird price) - later full price of €20
