Courtesy Visit of OPV Atalaya to North West
The arrival of the OPV Atalaya, a Spanish Navy ship, is the third consecutive year that a ship of the modern Armada has travelled to Sligo for the Remembering the Armada weekend.
Please note that due to harbour restrictions no public visits will be possible to the OPV Atalaya, which will be berthed at Killybegs, which is the nearest deepwater harbour to Sligo.
We apologise to the public for any inconvenience caused.
However the ship will lie at anchor off the coast of Sligo on Saturday and Sunday and several of its officers and other crew will disembark to take part in the Twilight Parade at Streedagh Beach at 6pm Saturday.
A sincere thanks to Commanding Officer Lt Cmdr Álvaro Calderón Izquierdo of the OPV Atalaya for making his ship available for this year’s Remembering the Armada commemorations and for enabling his crew to play a leading role in some of the central events throughout the weekend.
